I am advocating for a 29 yr old man who thinks he cannot learn to read any
better than he does. This man has tested with a high I Q in childhood and
makes a good living with his hands as an adult. He feels that he must live with
card that life has dealt him and says that he has tried many programs but
cannot succeed . He has agreed to one more try...perhaps an on line course or
tutor. Thanking you in advance for your replies.

Dear Angela,

Your young man can easily be taught to read at a quite high level, at least
as high as his vocabulary and life experience can bring him. If he lives
anywhere close to Flint, Michigan, I will demonstrate to him that he can learn
rapidly. No charge. I will also train whoever volunteers to be his tutor
(wife or significant other would be my suggestion) and for no charge.

If you're wondering why I do this, you can read my autobiography TO TEACH A
DYSLEXIC or simply go the AVKO Educational Research Foundation's website at
spelling.org. We even have a free video you can show your young man just what
I will do in the very first session. I'll get him to read the word
malicious that first time I write it down.
