Instead of dropping it completely, I was wondering if the students would be
willing to pay the difference? I have found that students many times are
able (and willing) to help pay for some expenses when presented with the
problem.

Subject: [FamilyLiteracy 204] Transportation Woes

An article on the WALB News Web site tells of a proposed bus fare increase
in Albany, Georgia. If the increase is passed the monthly fare will almost
double, going from $22 to $40. The Director of Dougherty County's Literacy
program says, "We depend on those monthly passes to get us (sic) to our
family literacy center, to get their education. We have been receiving cuts
over and over, so we simply do not have the finances to continue providing
transporatation to our students."

Have you ever faced this or any kind of transportation problem in your
program?

What alternatives did you come up with to make it possible for student to
continue their participation?
