Hello to all on the Family Literacy Discussion List!
I am a relatively new member to this list and first, want to say thank you
for the wonderful sites that many have suggested for finding out facts and
statistics dealing with family reading. I am a Literacy Coach in Maine
and am currently preparing for my second year as faciliator for a family
literacy program - Supper With a Side of Reading. This involves parents
and children coming together once a month for a free supper and literacy
activities. I provide a short program for the parents based upon
informing them about what students take part in during the daily school
literacy block as well as tips and strategies for increasing literacy
activities at home. Students get to participate in a story time with our
librarian and then everyone gets back together for an interactive family
activity.
I am thinking about setting up center type activities, similar to what the
children do during literacy blocks in grades K-3. Would anyone have any
suggestions or ideas?

Thank you,
