Two articles on parental involvement appeared in yesterday's ASCD Brief. The first offers some practical tips for schools in how to increase parent involvement. Welcoming complainers gives a bit of a spin to the idea of complaining parents and surely the principal mentioned in Number 5 deserves kudos for going above and beyond. The second article reflects on a report titled It Takes a Parent: Transforming Education in the Wake of the No Child Left Behind Act. They include: Ditch confusing educational terms, involve complainers and hire school leaders who know how to listen and talk to parents.
