[FamilyLiteracy 529] Re: Motivating Parents To Read To Their Children

There is a very wonderful video called "Reading
to Babies" from www.readtome.org . It shows many
different parents from a variety of ethnic groups
and backgrounds reading with their very young
children and shows close-ups of the children
responding. There is a minimum of talk - the
pictures say a great deal about the joys of
reading to young children. I think it is quite
motivational and allows for follow-up discussion.
It is about 18 minutes. Also, reading aloud to
parents is a good motivator. They get to
experience the pleasure that their children feel.
For many parents it's a new experience. Also a
good jumping off point. Some thoughts that may be helpful. Jessica
