In our rural VA family literacy program, we have seen parents become much more comfortable in visiting their children's classroom. We have seen parents amazed that their children can do academic "things" that the parent wasn't aware of - like K. reading words, carrying their own lunch trays, etc. The parents frequently tell me that children must know "things" much earlier than they had to learn them. Many parents of 2nd and 3rd graders are struggling w/the same type of math problems the children are learning to do. All in all, it has been a positive experieince for parent and child.
