Another thing I studied and have managed to translate into some basic language is the classic Greek "Topics of Invention". http://humanities.byu.edu/rhetoric/Canons/Invention/TOPICS%20OF%20INVENTION/TOPICS.HTM This site really goes into them very deeply. Being a bit weird, I enjoy reading things like this, so maybe someone else might find them useful. They are commonly called the rhetorical modes, but this gives some clear examples of exactly what the modes were meant to be. Every bit of knowledge helps add to the toolbox.
