Working in community planning, one needs to know the literacy levels so that information is presented in readable formats, too. For example, if you're presenting a planning document with lots of graphs and charts, your community at large may not understand it due to their lack of skills reading these types of formats. va ________________________________ From: familyliteracy-bounces at nifl.gov [mailto:familyliteracy-bounces at nifl.gov] On Behalf Of Janet Isserlis Sent: Wednesday, May 16, 2007 10:32 AM To: The Family Literacy Discussion List Subject: [FamilyLiteracy 665] Re: Community Literacy A number of literacy practitioners view literacy as a form of community development, and , as such, see literacy as a means of/vehicle towards access to information, action and learning and the whole enterprise, overall, as one focused on reducing isolation. More literacy among the citizenry means better education and ability to participate in and maintain the democracy and ultimately improve the community.
