In light of the current financial literacy discussion that is taking place, I thought that some subscribers may be interested in information that I just shared with subscribers on the Poverty, Race, Women, and Literacy list: Today there is an article on Women’s Enews, about financial literacy and domestic violence. Apparently, the National Network to End Domestic Violence Fund and the domestic violence program of the Allstate Foundation in Northbrook, Ill., created in 2005 a "financial empowerment" curriculum. There are 5 workbooks that cover topics such as how to make budgets, open bank accounts, establish credit and qualify for mortgages. To learn more, you can go to the Allstate Foundation Domestic Violence Program website at: http://www.allstatefoundationdomesticviolenceprogram.org/ and/or the National Network to End Domestic Violence Fund website at: http://www.nnedv.org/ Daphne Greenberg Georgia State University Poverty, Race, Women, and Literacy Discussion List Facilitator
