Cyndi The Verizon Life Span Literacy Matrix, which identifies relevant literacy outcomes and appropriate instruments for measuring those outcomes, has sections on children's literacy, ranging from birth through grade five. A number of measures are suggested in each section for outcomes, such as oral language, phonological awareness, print awareness, alphabet knowledge, etc., that are relevant to each age group discussed. You can access a printable pdf version of the Matrix through Verizon's Thinkfinity Literacy Network at the following address: http://literacynetwork.verizon.org/fileadmin/download/13741_verizon_matr ix.pdf Gail J. We will be exploring the connections between parental literacy activities and health problems prior to school entry. The last cohort of children in our province prior to province-wide initiation of the program (Read to Me!) is currently 5 years old. In order to test for pre/post Read to Me! effects, we are undertaking a population based study of this cohort. We have been looking for a short, valid measure of language development and/or early reading appropriate for this sample that can be completed by parents. We would greatly appreciate any recommendations! Thank you, Cyndi Cyndi Brannen, Ph. D.
