Some students use color overlays and indicate it makes a difference to them. Companies sell these acetate overlays, and you basically have the students try several to see if they help. For some, it stops the jumpiness of the letters. One teacher even found with her smart board that 6 of her students indicated they could read the writing much better when it was done in yellow print on a brown background.
