[FamilyLiteracy 943] Books Open Up WorldsDavid J. Rosen djrosen at comcast.netThu Jan 24 17:19:39 EST 2008
Colleagues, The article, "Books Open up Worlds," from the Calgary Herald on family literacy in Canada intrigues me. I was intrigued to learn that family literacy got a huge boost in Canada from a made-for-TV movie. I like the airplane oxygen mask analogy used by ABC Canada president, Margaret Eaton. (I'll use that when talking with legislators in the U.S.!) I especially like the succinct description by Calgary Reads executive director, Dariel Bateman, of how one of the three most important ways that parents can help their children with reading readiness is by how they talk with them. http://tinyurl.com/3c239m What do you think of this article?
