[FamilyLiteracy 1031] Re: Toyota Family Literacy Program - Deadline2-15-08

Deborah,

We have many school districts that offer the program through the
collaboration of different partners (i.e., universities, community
colleges, and CBOs). However, community partners must submit the
application in conjunction with a single school district that has high
Hispanic enrollment. The school district must also have at least three
elementary schools serving students in grades K-3.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks!

Five $600,000 Educational Grant Opportunities to Benefit Hispanic, Other
Immigrant Families for Literacy Efforts

Applications due Feb. 15

The National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) is seeking five school
districts to receive an award of $600,000 each in direct funding and
support services to implement the highly successful Toyota Family
Literacy Program.

Targeting communities with high or fast-growing Hispanic and other
immigrant populations, the program uses a quality family literacy
approach to increase basic language and literacy skills. It also
provides parents with the specific skills they need to help their
children succeed.

Five cities will be selected to receive direct funding, training,
technical assistance, materials and other support from NCFL. The
opportunity builds on Toyota's commitment to this program, which
currently serves 60 elementary schools in 20 cities nationwide.

Awards will be made based on a competitive application process.
Interested school districts in conjunction with their local city
officials will be eligible. Please download, complete and return a
Capability Survey by 5 p.m. (Eastern Time), February 15, 2008.

Visit www.famlit.org/TFLP-Capability-Survey to view the Capability
Survey and find out more information about this exciting opportunity,
including coverage of the cities that already benefit from the Toyota
Family Literacy Program.
