NEW COURSE!
Using Cultural Artifacts to Teach ESL
facilitated by Erik Jacobson
(3-hour course, June 9 - 20)

Learn how you can promote English language learning, critical thinking, and cultural understanding while tapping into learners' knowledge of proverbs, folk tales, music, visual arts, and other cultural products. This course looks at ways to create teacher-student and student-student dialogue around cultural artifacts.

You'll examine linguistic nuances through semantic mapping, cross-cultural translations of proverbs and folk tales, using graphic organizers and writing exercises to understand differences in music, and more! Each course topic includes opportunities for you to apply ideas to lesson plans and collaborate with other participants in building resources lists for further instructional planning.
