literacy. If the parents and the children are English language learners,

Two Languages</span></i> and edited <i><span style='font-style:italic'>Beginning
Literacy with Language</span></i> with David Dickinson. Vicki
Purcell-Gates has also done research in family literacy and specializes in
early literacy at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">U.</st1:PlaceType>
of <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">British Colombia</st1:PlaceName></st1:place>.
Then there’s the wonderful Joseph Sparling at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType> of <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">North
Carolina</st1:PlaceName></st1:place> who was an integral part of the
Abecedarian research. On the parents’ side, Heide Wrigley of
Literacy Works is absolutely a top reading and literacy expert. There are
