Hi All,

I just got this notice from the American Medical Association Foundation,
and thought some of you may be interested:

**********************************
On July 21, 2005, the American Medical Association and Blue Cross Blue
Shield of
America co-hosted a White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA)
Mini-Conference on
Health Literacy and Health Disparities in Chicago.

The WHCoA occurs once a decade to make aging policy recommendations to
the
President and Congress, and to assist the public and private sectors in
promoting dignity, health, independence, and economic security of
current and
future generations of older persons. The WHCoA Policy Committee wanted
to
explore the issue of vulnerable elderly populations at risk for
disproportionate
burdens of disease, injury, premature death, and disability due, in
part, to
their limited ability to understand and participate in the 21st century
health
care system.

As a result of this Mini-Conference, the issue of Health Literacy gained
national visibility as it became one of the top fifty resolutions
adopted by the
1,200 delegates of the WHCoA.

The proceedings of this Mini-Conference can now be downloaded as a PDF
file at
www.ama-assn.org/go/aging.
