Subject: [HealthLiteracy 275] Re: Communicationns

Hi all,

Yes, health miscommunication is an ever-present problem for us as
patients -- regardless of our training (I worked for many years as an
occupational therapist), life experiences, or reading skills. Here is
what I wrote to Archie Willard in response to his recent NIFL-Health
posting:

"Like you, I have many stories of health communication not going well.
In fact, sometimes I wonder if any of the work I'm doing really makes a
difference. But then other people say to me, 'If you don't do this, who
will?' So I keep on going.

"In the larger view, you and I and all the other health literacy
advocates are making a difference. It's just hard to see our progress at
times."

The need continues, and so must we.
~Helen
