The Literacy Assistance Center has facilitated a number of visits of
students to medical facilities. These have all been informative and
inspiring visits for both the students and practitioners. We have
documented a visit by students of the New York City Department of
Education's Mid Manhattan Adult Learning Center and Harlem Hospital in a
wonderful 6 minute video (DVD now) that is available by emailing
alexs at lacnyc.org. This is an experience we strongly recommend.

Subject: [HealthLiteracy 505] Wed. Question: Literacy Class visits
toHospitals

Hi Everyone,

Last week's question about navigating healthcare institutions lead to
some talk about partnerships bewteen adult education programs and
hospitals or health clinics. This week's Wednesday question is to follow
up on those topics:

Question: Has your adult literacy class ever gone into a hospital or
health clinic as an activity, or has a literacy class ever come to your
health center/agency? What happened, and what kind of impact did this
have on the students, teachers and health professionals?

We look forward to hearing about these experiences!

All the best,
Julie
