Nicola,

I've cc'd Kari Sapsis on this, who's led CDC's flu campaign and is now
leading the adolescent vaccine campaign. She may have some thoughts on
this.

Allison

Hi Everyone,

As flu season is here, I was wondering whether any of you have heard
about initiatives referring to the flu as "influenza" because people are
confusing the word 'flu' with 'stomach flu' because 'stomach flu' is a
bit of a misnomer?

Somebody in our health region asked me about this, and I have to admit,
I have never heard of this before. Is this something new? Do any of you
know anything about anything similar??

I am tempted to say that we refer to the vaccine as a "flu shot", not an
"influenza shot", and lots of government information refers to it as
"flu".

Does anybody have any thoughts about this?
