You might be interested in looking at a health literacy training that AHRQ developed for pharmacists. You can find the slide set and a trainer's guide at: http://www.ahrq.gov/qual/pharmlit/pharmtrain.htm Cindy Brach Center for Delivery, Organization, and Markets Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality 540 Gaither Road Rockville, MD 20850 phone: 301-427-1444 fax: (301) 427-1430 Cindy.Brach at ahrq.hhs.gov ________________________________ From: healthliteracy-bounces at nifl.gov [mailto:healthliteracy-bounces at nifl.gov] On Behalf Of Neal, Donna Vick Sent: Sunday, July 13, 2008 7:15 PM To: healthliteracy at nifl.gov Subject: [HealthLiteracy 2127] Health Literacy Curriculum To improve health outcomes we must find ways to overcome the challenge of low health literacy. A key to meeting this challenge is better trained healthcare providers. I have been an educator in a respiratory therapy program for 15 years. Two of the major units included in the curriculum are patient communication and patient education. However, there has been little focus on health literacy. I would like to develop a more comprehensive health literacy curriculum that can be used to supplement the content that is currently taught. Having said that, I am soliciting ideas for a health literacy curriculum. Any information would be helpful.
