Special Education and Liberal Studies
Assistant/Associate Professor
Joint appointment in Department of Educational Psychology,
Administration, and Counseling; and Liberal Studies Department

POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor in Special Education and Liberal
Studies in the Department of Educational Psychology, Administration, and
Counseling and the Liberal Studies Department, the undergraduate teacher
preparation program, at California State University, Long Beach.

RECRUITMENT NUMBER: 042

EFFECTIVE DATE: August 21, 2006

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned doctorate or ABD in special education or related field.
Ability and experience in instruction of students with disabilities in
collaborative settings.
Ability and experience with undergraduate teacher preparation in both core
content areas and pedagogy.
Successful professional and life experiences in multilingual/multicultural
settings; and ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and
culturally diverse campus community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
University teaching and supervision.
Record of scholarly activity or demonstrated potential for such in special
education and teacher preparation.
Ability and experience with assistive and instructional technology for
individuals with disabilities.

DUTIES:
Teach courses, supervise field experience in credential and graduate
programs in special education.
Assist in the recruitment, advisement, and retention of culturally and
linguistically diverse students.
Assist with program coordination; and develop program relations with area
schools.
Participate in scholarly activities and service to departments, college, and
university.

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with academic rank.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION: Letter of application, curriculum vita (including an
email address), three letters of recommendation, and transcript from
institution awarding highest degree. Documentation of teaching ability (if
applicable). Employment is contingent upon proof of legal right to work in the United
States, and this must be provided prior to employment at the University.
Appointment is not final until proof is provided.
