Hello all, The following information is being provided by June Justice Crawford from the National Institute for Literacy. Rochelle Kenyon Moderator, Learning Disabilities Discussion List _RKenyon721 at AOL.com_ (mailto:RKenyon721 at AOL.com) Bridges to Practice 2006 Training Schedule The following dates will be sent with complete information to all 50 State Education Adult Education Department directors, and to the directors of programs in the U.S. territories, on Wednesday, 1/9/06. States and territories will be invited to send a team of trainers to the Bridges training and all expenses will be paid by the National Institute for Literacy. Team members are required to attend both weeks of training, and to then provide a minimum of 16 hours of training in learning disabilities to no fewer than 30 adult educators or service providers within the next calendar year. Follow-up training is done at the expense of the State and supervisors are required to sign an agreement prior to the start of the training. Documentation of the training must be submitted to the Institute. Failure to provide the training will result in the State being billed for the expenses incurred by the Institute. Mary Lou Belisle, Master Trainer for Bridges to Practice, of Wisconsin, will be the lead trainer and coordinator for the sessions. She will be assisted by other Master Trainers and Intermediate Trainers. A complete list of the training teams will be available by the end of February. Those trainers who have reached Intermediate level and wish to seek possible certification at the Master level are encouraged to contact June Crawford (_jcrawford at nifl.gov_ (mailto:jcrawford at nifl.gov) ) to be considered for the 2006 training sessions. Session 1 Charlotte, North Carolina March 6-10 and June 12-16 Session 2 Missoula, Montana May 22-26 and July 31-August 4 Session 3 San Francisco, California June 26-30 and August 14-18 In addition, a Bridges to Practice Summer Institute will be held in Columbus, Ohio, on July 18, 19, and 20th. Preliminary plans include sessions on (1) learning disabilities and reading instruction, (2) learning disabilities and transition from K-12 to the adult world, and (3) new technology for adults with learning disabilities. Registration will be offered to anyone currently certified as a Bridges trainer and to those enrolled in a team for the 2006 training. A number of scholarships will be offered to trainers.
