Rochelle, thank YOU for doing such a nice job summarizing and generalilzing from the "conversation."

Andrea and others,

The issue of diagnosis for adults suspected of having learning disabilities
is the question I am asked about the most during the training I do. As adult
education and literacy professionals, we provide this service on a scale from
'not at all' -- to -- 'in specific instances only.' Cost is certainly a factor
as is having access to licensed, experienced professionals. Your comment
hits home for me especially because of the work we are attempting to do in
Florida by addressing these issues of systemic change.

Countless students we deal with simply can't maneuver their way through the
barriers we set up for them in our agencies and programs. Imagine how much
higher our GED Tests passing rates would be if those needing accommodations could
get the diagnosis and documentation to receive testing accommodations!

I would like to hear from our subscribers - at least one from each state - on
the issue of whether adult education and literacy programs in your states are
providing (paying for) diagnostic assessment. If so, how is it being done
and with what funds?

I am eager to hear from you!

Thanks,

Rochelle Kenyon, Moderator
