Title
Math Accessibility as Public Policy: Why it Matters to the Learning
Disability Community

Summary
This session will explore why support for math accessibility within
federal and state law and policy is vital to the interests of the
learning disability community. Access to instructional content and
assessments will be considered.

Audience Outcomes:
The goals of this presentation are simple:
(1) To highlight the problem of math skill disparity between students
with and without disabilities, and to make special application to the
learning disability population.
(2) To demonstrate how having accessible digital math instructional
content and assessments will be beneficial to all students, and will
help level the playing field for students with learning disabilities.
(3) To describe the changes to public policy language which are needed
to ensure that accessibility to math materials is mandated in statutes,
regulations, administrative policies and practice.
(4) To energize participants and facilitate their becoming advocates for
math accessibility for the benefit of ALL students.
