[LearningDisabilities 905] Re: Policy Question about Adults with Learning DisabilitiesRKenyon721 at aol.com RKenyon721 at aol.comThu Feb 8 16:27:41 EST 2007
Hi Sandy, Thanks for the question. I am glad to know that Rhode Island is undertaking this important initiative. Quite a few states already have a policy and very generously allow other students to use information they have developed. Arkansas and Ohio both have excellent policies that my state of Florida has used when we began researching what was available. I know that Patti White and Jeff Fantine from Arkansas and Ohio, respectively, will respond to your question. Both of their policy documents are online. Other states that have policies are invited to respond as well. We have discussed this topic before. Our Archives are very useful just for this purpose - to look for discussions that have taken place in the past. Here is the location for that earlier discussion from the 2004 Archives: _http://www.nifl.gov/cgi-bin/texis/webinator/search_discussions/redir.html?que ry=State+Policy+On+Learning+Disabilities&prox=page&rorder=500&rprox=500&rdfreq =500&rwfreq=500&rlead=500&sufs=0&order=r&cq=8&u=http%3A//www.nifl.gov/nifl-ld/ 2004/0267.html_ (http://www.nifl.gov/cgi-bin/texis/webinator/search_discussions/redir.html?query=State+Policy+On+Learning+Disabilities&prox=page&rorder=500& rprox=500&rdfreq=500&rwfreq=500&rlead=500&sufs=0&order=r&cq=8&u=http://www.nif l.gov/nifl-ld/2004/0267.html) Look for the label: [NIFL-LD:4412] Fw: State LD Policy Planning You might find some other responses that were pertinent in 2004. I am anxious to see what responses you will get now -- almost 3 years later. This would include best practices, assistive technology, professional development and awareness training, to name just a few. Does any state (or country) have such a policy and how can we get hold of a copy? Thanks very much for your help and for all the ideas and suggestions that have already appeared in this discussion list .
