A wonderful resource is "Multisensory Teaching of Basic Language Skills" , edited by Judith R. Birsh , Teachers College Columbia University. Each chapter is authored by a professional with expertise in the topic and begins with a conceptual framework based on research in a specific area followed by content knowledge and specific "how to" information based on working model programs. This is a fantastic resource for anyone working with language based disabilities, or one who is thinking about entering the field. Each chapter is an article in itself. Another good one about the development of reading in younger children is "Straight Talk About Reading" by Susan Hall and Louisa Moats.
