Good afternoon! I was asked to introduce myself to the list. My name is Kim Bellerive. I am the Assistant Director of the Greater Homewood Adult Literacy and ESOL Program in Baltimore, Maryland. I began my work here as an Americorps VISTA in August 2003 after a 4 year career as an elementary school teacher. In the course of the past 9 years, I have worked with individuals with diagnosed learning differences and what I suspected were learning differences from the ages of 5 to 72. I hope to learn more about specific instructional strategies that can be used to help adult learners be successful in the classroom, at work, and with their families. I also would like to learn more about observable behaviors that might serve as indicators to possible learning difficulties. I think the biggest challenge the organization I work for faces is helping our volunteer tutors know what to look out for and how to gear instruction to fit the needs and challenges of adults with learning differences.
