Hi-
I'll be presenting twice. On Wednesday at 8:30 am:
Session Title: Moving into Adulthood: Tips for Heading Off to College, to
Work, and into the Community

Session Description: Like their non-disabled peers, most teens with LD
eagerly anticipate the day when they will finish high school, either go to
college or get a job, and move out on their own. This session focuses on the
practical. What do youth with LD need to know to maximize their potential
for success after high school in college, at work, and in community life?
Common challenges will be discussed along with tips to ease the transition
into each of these arenas.

And on Thursday, same time slot in the morning:
Session Title: Preparing Parents and Teens for the Transition Planning
Process and for the Road Ahead
Session Description: Too few students and parents assume their role as full
participants in the process, partly due to their lack of awareness of their
legal rights and partly due to disempowerment by their school system. This
session will provide an overview of the Transition Planning process, will
provide sample objectives for the various domains, and will provide tools
parents and teens can use to begin preparing to take an active role in the
IEP meetings where transition planning takes place.

Hope to see some of you at the conference!
Arlyn Roffman
