There is much more than reading skills to pass the GED.

When I did CDL training for truck drivers, about 20 of the 450 drivers I
had could not read for the test. One of these had over a million safe
miles in driving. We made tapes of the information and these 20 people
were given the test over the telephone. they pushed buttons for T and
F, to see if they had the necessary knowledge for the CDL. All passed.
(some took it 2 or 3 times, but so did some of the readers)

So, I think what we have to look at, do we want a GED to test
knowledge?
or should part of the GED test reading? The way we do it now, if a
person can read, he can pretty much pass the GED.
