Here's a link to a chapter from Volume 7 of the Review of Adult Learning and
Literacy published by the National Center for the Study of Adult Learning
and Literacy. Check pp. 24-25 where John Comings cites several studies on
instructional hours for a grade-level gain.

I agree. However, for grant and fundraising purposes I really need some
data. A range would be OK, but I desperately need a number of the average
length. I know that adult learners don't fit in a mold, but the funding
world doesn't want to hear this.
Thanks,
Shannie

Has anyone out there ever met a "typical adult learner"? I never have.
Different learning styles demand different teaching approaches. Further,
in adult literacy, the student's objective must rule the game. Lucille

Does anyone know of a reliable study or source that clarifies how many
instructional hours it takes for a typical adult learner to advance one
grade level? If so, do you have a link or the findings?
Thanks,
Shannie
