This is a great question. If you find some hard numbers, please share with
the listserv.

It seems that most programs have no way of finding out how many students have
disabilities. We have our Disability Support Programs and Services department
here in San Diego. We can test students for learning disabilities and help
them in the classroom. I am happy if we can verify 3-4% of students. Many,
however, want to avoid labels or a just too transient to stick around for
testing.

Those students who do go through the testing have a very good persistence and
graduation rate.

Subject: [LearningDisabilities 2536] Adult LD Stats

Hello All,

I am working on a project through our LD System Project (LDSI) here in
Washington State and wondering if you can help direct me to some stats
regarding LD.

I have been looking for information about the suspected number of
incarcerated individuals with learning disabilities and the number of adults
in adult education with learning disabilities. I have seen some stats quoted
however they are not cited. I have the Bridges to Practice fact sheet but
these particular numbers are not cited.

I?m wondering if anyone can help me find prevalence of ld in the incarcerated
and ABE population.

Thank you,

Lee Jewett

Thanks so much for the NCSALL link. I was able to find some
information; not a lot but every bit helps.

Yeah.

Lee: You might want to check out the following. There is a long
discussion of prevalence that includes references. Its aging, but relevant.
