Consider, also, to open a reading clinic and to hire teachers experienced in
Orton-Gillingham and Lindamood Bell. There are many excellent teachers out
there with teaching credentials who do not know phonemic awareness and
phonological awareness. It's the missing tool in the package they bought at
the college. Lucille Cuttler

If you know how to teach someone how to read and can get someone to
pay you to do so, you certainly do not need to be certified. If you wish to
help others as a volunteer tutor, you do not need to be certified.
Certification is demanded when one teaches in public schools.

Hello,

I and another person are planning to open up a literacy center. I wanted to
ask if we needed to be certified teachers to start our literacy center.
Also,
how does one go about starting one? Where does one get materials,
textbooks,
etc? All advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Carolyn
