Hi all,

We have had a very enlightening discussion this week. My thanks go to our
guest speakers, Brant Hayenga and Dr. Mary Loescher, for all their efforts
in planning for this interesting topic, sharing their expertise,
responding to questions, and encouraging participation that expanded horizons and
allowed for differing points of view. I sincerely appreciate your efforts.

Thank you, too, to those subscribers that responded with questions and
comments during the discussion.

The speakers have challenged us to consider future directions for
discussion among subscribers as follows:

1. How can we translate recent developments in cognitive neuroscience
into more effective teaching and curriculum development?
1. With so much accumulating evidence on how to effectively teach
reading and prevent reading failure, how is it that so many students continue
to enter adulthood without adequate literacy?
1. How can we get the government at the state and federal levels to
commit adequate funding to adult literacy programs?
1. Would more funding actually make a difference in literacy
outcomes?

I encourage you to begin exploring ideas that you find interesting~

Thanks very much,

Rochelle
