Rosemary Woolley, Dean of Student Services, St. Louis Community College (STLCC) at Forest Park; James McKenney, Vice President of Economic Development and International Programs, American Association of Community Colleges (AACC); and R. Michael Snider, Provost of Columbus State Community College; will present "Role of Counseling in Postsecondary Education" during a webcast from the National Dissemination Center for Career and Technical Education, The Ohio State University, 3:00 p.m. EDT, Tuesday, October 26, 2004. Dr. Rosemary Woolley will present the National Council on Student Development recommendations regarding the role of counseling in the community college. These recommendations were developed at a colloquium held during the summer of 2004. The colloquium conclusion "requires community college leaders and counselors across the country to come together at the local levelto have informed and open discussions regarding the needs of their students and to agree how professionally trained counselors can best meet those needs." Dr. Woolley will also present activities that will better prepare secondary and community college counselors to enhance the success of their students. Dr. McKenney and Dr. Snider will react to Dr. Woolley's remarks and participate in a discussion about what they see as the evolving role of counseling in community colleges. Dr. Rosemary Woolley has been the Dean of Student Services at STLCC at Forest Park since 1993. She has provided leadership to the National Council on Student Development task force revisiting student development issues, specifically in the role of counseling in community colleges. She is also a member of AACC's Commission on Academic, Student, and Community Development. Dr. Woolley has a PhD from St. Louis University in Higher Education Administration. As Vice President of the American Association of Community Colleges, Dr. McKenney is the primary point of interface between the AACC and other public/private organizations, agencies, and trade associations that focus on economic and workforce development. Also, Dr. McKenney oversees the development of partnerships and collaborative projects with international organizations/agencies as well as United States organizations. He serves on the boards of the American Youth Policy Forum, SkillsUSA, and the National Commission on Cooperative Education. Dr. McKenney received his PhD from the University of Maryland. As Provost, Dr. Michael Snider is responsible for Learning Systems at Columbus State Community College. Dr. Snider provides leadership and direction for Learning Systems, including all academic and instructional matters, academic and student affairs, student services, community education, workforce development, and other operations that address learning, learners, and facilitators. Dr. Snider has a BS degree in Health Science Education and Evaluation from the State University of New York at Buffalo, an MA in Higher Education College Teaching and PhD in Higher Education from Ohio University.
