Are you interested in the topic of low literacy health education
materials? If yes, you may be interested in subscribing to the
Health & Literacy Discussion List (to subscribe, go to:
www.nifl.gov/mailman/listinfo/healthliteracy
- you can always unsubscribe at that website when the discussion is
over)
Well known health literacy researchers and advocates, Len and Ceci Doak
and Dr. Peter Houts, will be guest facilitating a discussion on using
pictures in low literacy health education materials from January 8-12,
2007.
They just published an article called "The role of pictures in improving
health communication: A review of research on attention, comprehension,
recall, and adherence." in the journal "Patient Education and
Counseling", and the Doaks are authors of "Teaching Patients With Low
Literacy Skills", which describes some of the earliest health literacy
research, along with practical techniques for communicating clearly with
patients.
If you feel like reading up on the topic, they recommend reading:
Teaching Patients With Low Literacy Skills, which can be found at:

If interested, please go to:

you can always unsubscribe, when the discussion is over!
