[PovertyRaceWomen 912] Social work and adult literacy

I read Daphne Greenberg's article, The Importance of Adult Literacy
Issues in Social Work Practice, and very much agreed with her analysis. I
believe that there is a need for Social Workers in adult education
facilities. Non-profit Community-based agencies, like Literacy Partners,
are in desperate need of Social Workers to coordinate services between
HRA or other service providers to ensure proper coordination of care.
I notice the lack of awareness around the severity of the issue of
adult literacy. Social workers seem to be focus on the workforce / job
training portion of the issue rather than education itself. I aim to
prove that social workers are not readily involved as they were in the
past, why they should get involved and how they can be of assistance.

I am wondering if anyone on this list feels that this research would be
of some value or is the social work profession involved enough in the
field? In other words, does anyone have any insight on this topic (the
need for social workers in adult literacy programs or the lack of
collaboration).
