The trouble is: even if you *can* read well, it's hard to get good
information. You have to be willing to really search — especially in
the independent media (what there is of it). In this day and age, I
believe full literacy is key to a functioning democracy, but I also want
to float out the idea that once you learn how to read, you have to also
learn how to wade through the boatload of rumor and misinformation you
get via the corporate media.

That said, I do hope people will check out the forthcoming (March 08)
issue of The Change Agent, "Democracy in Action." It is focused on
bringing the issue of elections, advocacy, organizing and democracy into
the classroom. I believe Silja posted the announcement already, so I
