Hello Everyone!
Today, the Professional Development list is switching to fully-moderated mode.
Changing technologies in an online community will no doubt be interesting (!)
and perhaps even exciting. For some, it may feel a bit like gravity working in
a slightly different way. However, I encourage everyone to raise questions as
we travel together through this transition.

Previously, Katrina Hinson posted two questions regarding the switch to
fully-moderated, one of which was not addressed by Jo Maralit’s and Tanya Shuy
’s previous message:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) "What is going to be done to prevent delay/lag in someone posting or
responding to a discussion and then having to wait for it to be ‘approved’?"
Since much of my work requires me to be online, you should not experience any
significant lag time from when a message is submitted for posting, and when I
release the message to the list. During travel times and sick leave I will
find a substitute moderator.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Additionally, the National Institute for Literacy Professional Development
List will continue to be co-sponsored in collaboration with the Association of
Adult Literacy Professional Developers (AALPD), who originated the list,
provides the list moderator, and oversees its operation. http://www.aalpd.org/
. For those of you who are new to the list, I have worked in adult literacy
professional development at the University of Tennessee, Center for Literacy
Studies since 2000, and beginning in 1996 I previously taught ABE/GED.
Currently, I am Vice-Chair of AALPD.

I have always been excited about the many possibilities this list affords us
as adult literacy professional developers. I’m sure there will be implications
for professional development in transitioning e-communities to different
technologies and under varying conditions. We will certainly learn as we go, I
have no doubt. So fasten your seat belts – the forecast is unknown but good
weather is holding. Hopefully we are in for a smooth ride.

Yours,

Jackie
