Hello you'll, I'm Jackie Saindon, and no, I'm not from Georgia, but since there is no second person plural in standard English, I have adjusted to using that in my everyday speech. I'm originally from New York, but have lived in Georgia for the last 27 years. I have an MA in Anthropology and an EdD in Adult Education from UGA. I've taught ABE, GED, and ESL in for the adult literacy program in northeast Georgia, first for the Clarke County School District and then for Athens Technical School (now college). I then became an ESL teacher at the University of Georgia in American Language Program, UGA's Intensive English Program until May of 2004 when they closed the program. I then taught the endorsement courses, Language and Culture in the Classroom, First and Second Language Acquisition and Adult Materials and Methods of ESL, course at the undergraduate and graduate levels for the University of Georgia. I also have an interest in Mexican education - from family engagement to pre-K through post secondary. Recently, I conducted workshops for volunteer ESL teachers through Athens Literacy Council, Catholic Social Services, and Georgia's DTAE. I'm also on the Clarke County School Board, currently serving as president. When I started teaching ESL in an intensive English program, my professional association was with International and Georgia TESOL. In joining the professional development discussion list I feel that I am coming back to my origins as an adult ed teacher/ teacher trainer. I only found out about the list a few months ago when I did the DTAE trainings, but I already have been professionally and academically enriched by the discussions, and resources that have been posted on the list. Thanks Jackie (the other Jackie) for the resources and leadership you provide. I feel that I'm coming home, and I'm happy to say that I'm happy to join you on this list. I would like to add a resource to the list. For those of you who speak Spanish or who have Spanish speaking participants in your program, this Web site that represents a consortium of Mexican educational programs may be helpful. It contains numerous resources as well as the curriculum for the Mexican educational system from the elementary though the secondary system, including the equivalent of the GED program for Mexican nationals abroad. Someone can tell me where this posting should go, but here is the URL: http://www.conevyt.org.mx/. We're using it in our high school so that teachers can send Spanish speaking students to corresponding curriculum materials in Spanish.
