[ProfessionalDevelopment 674] Announcement: New D.C. Adult Literacy Professional Development CenterJeff Carter jcarter at dclearns.orgTue Dec 12 12:25:59 EST 2006
Hello everyone, I'm pleased to announce that D.C. LEARNs, Washington D.C.'s literacy coalition, has been selected by the State Education Office (SEO) of the Government of the District of Columbia to lead the development, design, and management of a new Adult Literacy Professional Development Center for adult literacy, GED preparation, workplace literacy, family literacy, and adult English language learning programs here in the District of Columbia. Although our proposal was approved a few months ago, we waited to make a formal announcement until we had a better idea of when the funding would be approved and available. Major organizational partners include the Adult Literacy Resource Center (ALRC) at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library and the EFF Center for Training and Technical Assistance Center at the Center for Literacy Studies (CLS), University of Tennessee. D.C. LEARNs member organizations, which include nearly all of the adult literacy programs in the District, will also play a significant role in the planning, design, and implementation of the project. The search is now underway for a manager for the project. It's an exciting opportunity, I think, to build a citywide professional development initiative from the ground up -- and in a unique city that is going through tremendous growth and change. A press release and the position description for the manager position is now available on our Web site: Project Announcement: http://www.dclearns.org/archives/001854.html Job Description: http://www.dclearns.org/archives/001855.html A press release and the job description are also available as PDFs.
