[ProfessionalDevelopment 736] Adult Numeracy Literature ReviewSherman, Renee RSherman at air.orgThu Jan 4 12:18:11 EST 2007
In addition to the new NCSALL publication on adult numeracy just announced, those interested in this topic may want to read A Review of Literature in Adult Numeracy: Research and Conceptual Issues, which includes contributions by Iddo Gal, Diana Coben and Kathy Safford. The review is the first major product of the Adult Numeracy Initiative, a two-year project funded by the Office of Vocational and Adult Education, U.S. Department of Education, and conducted by the American Institutes for Research. The report provides a synthesis of conceptualizations of adult numeracy, a review of the U.S. and international research evaluating instructional approaches and interventions in adult mathematics and numeracy teaching, a summary of professional development initiatives and discussion of issues around assessment for adult numeracy. The second report of the project, a comprehensive review of professional development initiatives in adult numeracy, will be available later this winter.
