I have a copy of "What Works Literacy Partnership Resource Guide" that I
could share with Jon or anyone else who's interested.

Hi, Jane and all,

The link that you refer to below is to the What Works Study, which is
different from the What Works Literacy Partners collaboration. At least
for awhile, both projects were underway at the same time, so there has
always seemed to be a bit of confusion about the names.

The link to Literacy Partners Jon mentioned
(http://literacypartners.org/) says the organization "led a national
six-year best practices project, the What Works Literacy Partnership"
and lists a phone number which may be useful.

Several programs around the country (in Virginia, Montana, New York and
more I can't remember) participated in the project. I hope someone from
a participating programs has a lead to a report.

Jon,

This might be the report you are looking for (though it's a
research report, not a literacy partnership.) The link can be found on
the CAELA website at:
http://www.cal.org/caela/esl_resources/bibliographies/literacy.html.
Follow the CAELA link, then scroll down to find the citation below.

Condelli, L. Effective instruction for adult ESL literacy
students: Findings from the What Works Study
<http://www.nrdc.org.uk/uploads/documents/doc_54.pdf> . (Retrieved
September 1, 2006 from www.nrdc.org.uk/uploads/documents/doc_54.pdf)

Larry Condelli and Heide Wrigley were principal researchers on a
literacy study concerning adult ESL literacy students. This detailed
report is located on the National Research and Development for Adult
Literacy and Numeracy Web site from the United Kingdom at
www.nrdc.org.uk <http://www.nrdc.org.uk/> . Although the study was not a
quantitative one, it is one of the few studies to date on the adult ESL
literacy population, and as such, is of interest to the field. The
report includes an overview of the study's design and procedures and the
instructional framework and observation guide. It explains the analytic
approach used in looking at data, summarizes the study's main findings,
and offers suggestions for further research. Because the paper includes
an extensive bibliography focused on research and analysis, it may be of
special interest to researchers or practitioners who want to investigate
how data relates to their own professional wisdom. This article and
Wrigley's (below) provide suggestions to teachers on what works with
literacy-level adult English language learners.

Subject: [ProfessionalDevelopment 744] What Works Literacy
Partnership Report

Hello All:

I have found a reference to the What Works Literacy Partnership
on the New York City Literacy Partner's website. It mentions a report
and gives a link, however the link is dead. An internet search yielded a
synopsis of project on the SABES website.

I would be interested in seeing the complete report that was
produced. Does anyone have a copy or know where I might obtain one?

Thanks for your assistance.

Jon Doherty
