Karisa,

Preparing For Success: A Guide for Teaching Adult English Learners (2002) by Brigitte Marshall, available from the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL)- provides suggested activities and worksheets that encourage the formation of needed workplace skills, ( attendance, personal responsibility, teamwork etc.), within the Beginning / Intermediate ESL classroom.

It is not the Bible. However, I found that it was very helpful identifying and integrating language and workplace skills. Do others have suggestions?

Dear Cristine and all,

I've really enjoyed the discussion this week. You (Christine) presented some of your ideas to the Nellie Mae Adult Education cluster about a year ago and we have really started to change our program's approach towards professional development to use a job-imbedded approach. However, a formidable challenge has been to identify "pieces" of Beginning (and Intermediate) Level ESL work that teachers can discuss as a group. There are a lot of conversation and other interactive activities that take place in the classroom but for tangible work products...........Does anyone else feel that this is challenging and do you have any suggestions? Can rubrics provide a basis for discussion and study among teachers?

Thanks so much for your help.
