PD List Colleagues: Thank you to Daphne Greenberg, David Rosen, and to all of you for sharing your ideas, from classroom decor to curriculum design. So far I'm hearing that we'd like to have a discussion - as David suggests - "shop talk" (much like we're doing now!) on how to do curriculum development, and that one good possible springboard for discussion might be "Understanding by Design (UbD), 2nd ed., published by ASCD. So what are some additional considerations about the design of such a discussion activity? For example: - How might we frame or otherwise organize the discussion? In parts? Held on one or more discussion lists? - Would we have guests join us? For part of the discussion? For all of it? - What technology blends might be useful in supporting the discussion? - What are other design considerations? Proposed Discussion Goal: Help adult education curriculum developers share and improve their approaches to curriculum development Desired outcomes of discussion (posted to the List thus far): - Identify ways to use resources from the book to facilitate discussion between mentors and mentees about curriculum development - Explore concepts through which we would view curriculum development, including normativity, philosophies of education, and approaches to curriculum development produced by various philosophies - Explore how philosophies and approaches - including theme-based, Freirean, and others - help students reach program and personal goals - Share resources that help teachers understand curriculum development processes, satisfying experiences and frustrations helping teachers develop curriculum - Other desired outcomes? What are your thoughts either on additional design considerations or outcomes? Thanks, Jackie Taylor -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
