Hi, I'm a Director of Basic Skills in a rural community college in
Washington state. This is a timely discussion for us, as we are
embarking on a project to align our curriculum with our new Washington
State Learning Standards and we are utilizing theme-based or
project-based instructional practices. I've invited  a couple of the
faculty to join up as well.  I've also taught for many years before
becoming an administrator, both in ESL and ABE classes. Looking forward
