Renata Russo, an adult education doctoral candidate, and Rose Anna
Santos, a doctoral candidate studying literacy development in young
students in the Department of Educational Administration and Human
Resources, were elected as Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy
and Learning (TCALL) research fellows for the 2007-2008 academic year.

"With Renata and Rose as fellows, we are now funding five doctoral
fellows through the Center," said Dominique Chlup, director of TCALL.
"When the fellows' program began three years ago, I hoped to continue
expanding it each year and it has been wonderful to see that happen."

Russo has been working in adult education for 20 years. She has had a
chance to work in almost every facet of the adult education field. She
is looking forward to becoming more involved in research and is honored
to be a TCALL fellow for 2007-2008.

For the past three years, Santos has taught art at the elementary level
at both William B. Travis and Sam Houston Elementary Schools in Corpus
Christi, Texas. While teaching, she developed an interest for
integrating literacy with fine arts, and completed a master's degree in
Secondary Education from Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. She is currently
teaching at Neal Elementary in Bryan, Texas, and is honored by the
opportunity to be a TCALL Fellow.

In its third year, the TCALL Research Fellows provides monetary support
and guidance to doctoral students with an interest in adult learning and
literacy. A major benefit of the program is that students don't have to
reside on the College Station campus to take advantage of the research
and networking opportunities.
