Dear Professional Developers,
The National Institute for Literacy (Institute) and the LINCS Regional
Resource Centers are mapping adult education professional development
activities nationwide. We are asking our state partners to designate a
person to complete the survey found at
http://www.nifl.gov/nifl/news_events/mapping_survey07.html by November 19,
2007. Regional Resource Center staff will follow up with states in
mid-November to answer questions about the survey and to clarify answers.
Please note at the end of the survey that we ask for names and contact
information for any other statewide groups that provide professional
development for adult educators. We appreciate your assistance in helping
us cover all aspects of adult education in your state.
Information collected from the Mapping Survey will be used along with
information from the Professional Development Needs Survey currently online
to (1) give the Institute and the LINCS Regional Resource Centers insights
on how Institute-produced materials and training can be disseminated and (2)
identify additional areas where the Institute might want to develop
evidence-based materials and trainings.
The three Regional Resource Centers will use the data to develop regional
dissemination plans that will include how to best disseminate and present
Institute-sponsored resources and training in partnership with the state
organizations. States will be invited to participate in regional planning
meetings in late winter to assist with developing the regional plans.
The National Institute for Literacy, a federal agency, provides leadership
on literacy issues, including the improvement of reading instruction for
children, youth, and adults. In consultation with the U.S. Departments of
Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services, the Institute serves as a
national resource on current, comprehensive literacy research, practice, and
policy.
The National Institute for Literacy is committed to the dissemination of
high-quality resources to help practitioners use evidence-based
instructional practices that improve outcomes in adult learners' literacy
skills. LINCS is the backbone of the Institute's dissemination system,
providing information on a wide variety of literacy relevant topics, issues,
and resources through regional resource centers, collections of resources,
and discussion lists. For more information about the National Institute for
Literacy and LINCS visit http://www.nifl.gov.
