Title: : Literacy Program Manager

Salary: Salary Range of $35,360 - $45,760 per year

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, includes some evening and weekend hours

Waukegan Public Library serves an ethnically and culturally diverse community of approximately 90,000. We are seeking an outgoing, service oriented staff to learn and grow in the profession, in a stimulating and challenging environment. This person oversees the Literacy Department to provide adult and family literacy services to Lake County residents; manages the facility and staff at the Adult Learning and Technology Center; seeks and administers grant projects for literacy activities.

Description of Duties:
Directs Libraries for Literacy project, serving as liaison among all participating libraries
Assists in hiring, trains, motivates, evaluates, and supervises literacy staff
Produces schedules and timesheets on regular basis
Coordinates all literacy project activities and events with College of Lake County and Literacy Volunteers of Lake County
Publishes "Collections" on an annual basis
Provides ongoing evaluation of literacy projects as per grant requirements
Publicizes and promotes the Lake County Adult Learning Connection monthly
Collects and reports statistical information twice yearly
Recruits, trains, supervises, and manages volunteer tutors
Match students with tutors
Assesses clients' literacy skills
Active member of the Lake County Area Planning Council for Adult Education
Other tasks as assigned


Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor degree, preferred in education or reading
3 years experience teaching adults required
Skill in using computers, productivity software, and specialty software
Superior verbal and written communication skills
Self starter, with good organizational skills
Team player who works well with people of all ages
Displays a positive attitude and a strong public service orientation
Ability to speak, read and write Spanish to interact with patrons, teach computer workshops, and cooperate in translations, a plus
