[ProfessionalDevelopment 1751] PD standards versus guiding principlesTaylor, Jackie jataylor at utk.eduWed Nov 28 16:08:59 EST 2007
Hello Everyone ~ I am glad to see us opening up the conversations about PD quality standards. It surprises me that more of us have not chimed in specifically on this. But now that the Thanksgiving holiday is behind us, I imagine that will change! Evelyn, you wrote: "The drawback of adult education professional development standards is that it is a relatively new concept for our field and the need for learning what standards are, the importance of the standards, and the place to use standards is in the early stages." I agree. Evelyn, you did your dissertation research on professional development quality standards, yes? I'm wondering, what do you (and others - please chime in) see as the difference between having PD Quality Standards versus guiding principles for professional development? If both are based in research, what may be the advantages of having one over the other?
