[ProfessionalDevelopment 1806] Matrix and Discussion Thanks!Taylor, Jackie jataylor at utk.eduTue Dec 11 11:47:31 EST 2007
Professional Development Colleagues: Thank you to all who shared their experiences with quality PD, and for your shared feedback on the draft AALPD standards. I'll post a summary shortly. I revisited our starting point - our experiences with PD that leads to change (http://wiki.literacytent.org/index.php/Summary:_PD_Experiences), to see whether and to what extent our experiences are reflected in the draft standards. I created a third column in the standards matrix, and I plugged in our experiences as they might align with the standards. Here is where I saw connections, but don't take my word for it! Play around with it and see where you find alignment and gaps: http://wiki.literacytent.org/images/5/5e/Draft_Standards_with_Experience s.doc Here are a couple of areas I saw where the AALPD might revisit, based on subscriber experiences: * Being explicit about follow-up * Teacher choice and self-directed learning (we have variety, but do we have ongoing dialogue around PD needs and goals?) * Treatment as professionals (ties to bullet above; a recurrent theme throughout the discussions - in what ways can/should PD standards for our field reflect the need to foster professionalism and pride?) Thanks again to all who contributed their time and thoughts in the quality PD discussions. Your feedback will guide AALPD in finalizing their recommendations for quality professional development standards, and we'll share next steps with you on that soon. Best wishes, Jackie Taylor, PD List Moderator, jataylor at utk.edu -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
